Main Street, Blacktown

There are a few op shops on Main Street, Blacktown that I like rummaging through. They're not far from Blacktown station, marked in red on the map.

Some of the goodies I've found in these shops:

Bag $5.00
with nice button detail

Necklace, $2.00

Top $7.00

Jacket $25

When I first started op shopping I was surprised to find really decent second-hand finds. I think it was that bag for a measley 5 bucks that started my addiction!

Reverse Garbage

These are some pics I took at the Reverse Garbage - Addison Rd, Marrickville. There really should be more places around like this!

I must've been about 8 years old when my mum first took me and my brother to the Reverse Garbage. From memory, I had only been there once in the six years of living on the same road! Still, there was something about this place and it's mountains of junk that I would always remember.

When my brother told me he was going on a trip to Marrickville, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to the Reverse Garbage again. It was so random - he wanted to go back just to check out the place where we grew up. It was funny 'cos I wanted to go back there so I could take pictures and blog about it here. There was something serendipitous about it.

Hello I'm Maria and I'm an Op-Shopaholic

Hey Pop Trashed!

I'm excited about contributing to this blog and doing the work (ie op-shopping) to keep it updated. I really do love op-shopping. There's a rush that comes with finding quality stuff amoungst the junk. Especially the quality stuff with a ridiculously low price! It's like going on a treasure hunt. Another plus is that you're buying second-hand: good for the environment and good for your conscience.

I planned on sharing pics of some of my op-shop finds, but my digicam has just run out of battery so maybe tomorrow.

I also started a design journal at http://blognow.com.au/makemyheartsing
Thanks Veronica Darling for taking me on board!

The Mini Fete

Friends of mine held a 'mini fete', rather than a garage sale last week.
I made them anzac biscuits and found some killer terry toweling material.

A visit to the old Tempe Tip

Haven't been shopping for AGES, but went to the Tempe Tip on Thurs and got some medium sized bits of material (for short dresses or tops) for 50 cents each:

I've heard people talk about the Tempe Tip, but I never really knew where it was and I've driven through Tempe a few times! One day I saw a 'Salvos' sign and jackpot, it's past all the fast food outlets and a left hand turn (if you're driving away from the city), here are the details for NSW Salvos.

I really liked it, the op shop is a massive warehouse (and the shop takes up only half of the space), but there was quite a lot of material scraps and loads of buttons that I'll go back for later.

Yay!
